2019 has been a busy year so far for us at The Ice Co Storage & Logistics with customer demand growing every year at all our sites. With this demand in mind, we decided to do something about that.
Chambers 11 & 12 at our South Kirkby site both had narrow aisle static racking, and both chambers held up to 3,500 spaces each, but we felt that we could give these chambers a little upgrade…
After speaking to Jungheinrich, we decided to upgrade our existing static racking with Wide Aisle Mobile Racking for both new chamber builds. This lets us add an additional 2,000 pallet spaces in Chamber 12 and 2,500 additional spaces in Chamber 11!
Check out how it was all built below!
But how did we do it?
Well. Firstly, we had to remove all the existing stock in both chambers and bring the temperature back up from a very chilly -23°!
Big Box Intralogistics then came in to dismantle our existing racking. Over a period of three weeks they pulled all the racking down and took it away with most of it being reused!
Jungheinrich started the process of installing the rails for the new mobile racking once the old racking was removed. Once the rails were laid, GE Scothorne Contracts Ltd arrived to lay a new concrete floor for us over a period of 10 days. Once the concrete was poured and smoothed into place, we had to let it cure for a period of 28 days.
After the concrete flooring had cured, Jungheinrich returned for five weeks to install our brand-new Wide Aisle Mobile Racking!
Passing the project back over to The Ice Co Storage & Logistics we started the process of bringing the temperature back down to -23° and bringing back in our customers product.
